In February 2017, the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) approved the Case for Change for SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Reference Committee (IRC), to undertake a thorough update of all nationally recognised outdoor recreation Training Package Products included in the SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package.

This work will be completed in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Update of equine related training package products – complete.
  • Stage 2: Update of all remaining outdoor recreation training package products.

Stage 1 – 15 Equine Units of Competency were endorsed at the AISC meeting on 4 December 2017. These units are now available at www.training.gov.au

Skills IQ would like to thank the Equine Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and all those who contributed to the update of the Equine Units of Competency.

Stage 2 – The Outdoor Recreation Training Package Product update will be guided by the Outdoor Recreation TAC and eleven Expert Working Groups (EWGs).

The table below outlines the EWG groups and their allocated specialisations.

SkillsIQ is currently in the process of developing preliminary drafts, utilising feedback from the EWGs and previous industry consultation. It is anticipated that draft Training Package Products will be available for public consultation in April 2018.

All training package components will be developed to meet the requirements of the 2012 Standards for Training Packages.
