"Styles of verbal communication and functions of language are not relevant to this unit which should concentrate on skills to support learners as per the unit description. These are strange to me as this isn't the terminology or the way in which people in industry talk about literacy. I think they should be deleted. 99% of literacy in schools is reading/writing not verbal even though the curriculum has sections on verbal/viewing/intertextuality and a whole bunch of other areas depending on state/subject and if using the Aus curriculum as a basis. Suggest - I think the knowledge in most units is getting out of hand and should be simplified like most other training packages. For example, instead of listing a few text types, why not just say "text types, purpose and audience""
Adam Green 20.08.2019 03.39PM
"Productive modes of communication including all aspects of verbal communication are essential for a unit, which focuses on literacy support. For example, expressing ideas, interacting with others, phonics etc. - these are essential skills required to engage in a world beyond the classroom."

""must be directly observed by the assessor on at least one occasion" could be modified to "must be directly observed by the assessor who physically attends the classroom, on at least one occasion""
Adam Green 20.08.2019 02.19PM
"Why do assessors need to physically attend the classroom to observe students? There are many technological methods that can be used instead. We need to consider rural students as well as the cost of an assessor visiting students multiple times. This needs to considered or the cost of courses will be prohibitive. "
