Project Background

The Direct Client Care and Support, Aged Services and Disability Support IRCs are working collaboratively to update the Training Package Products for workers in these sectors.

This includes updating the three Qualifications and 28 Units of Competency listed here on the SkillsIQ Online Feedback Forum.

A number of Discussion Papers examining specific issues in the Aged Services and Disability Support sectors have been circulated over the previous months for industry feedback and the responses to these will be considered by the IRCs, in addition to feedback provided here on the Training Package Products. To view the discussion papers and additional background on the project, please see the project pages below:

Disability Support Training Package Product Development

In order to capture detailed feedback on the Qualifications and specific Units of Competency that will be updated as a part of this project, the current versions of the Qualifications and Units of Competency included in this project will be available for comment on the SkillsIQ Online Feedback Forum from 2nd to 23rd October 2020.

Industry stakeholders are invited to provide their feedback on the current Training Package Products and how they are or are not meeting the needs of industry via this Forum. This is to ensure that the IRC has up to date feedback on the Training Package Products in order to consider this alongside the feedback from the Discussion Papers.

A series of key questions to consider when reviewing the Qualifications and Units of Competency and providing your feedback can be downloaded below.

"I agree with the above comments , the cert iv should include some details about how supervisors would also mange NDIS issues to support the individual , the whole units must reflect the new industry of NDIS , as more support workers are moving into this area. Support in community is not great and support workers need more training on how to mange the issues with the individual also. Terminology is poor and not reflective of today's world. "

"i have always thought palliative approach should be in the certificate iii again. students always are faced with death and palliative care whilst on work placement. It seems silly to not discuss and include this topic in our training package,"

"I would like to see this unit add in some state augmentative contact ie: independent living centers , so students can have resources available to them. We do provide , but the whole unit is about this topic but provides not support for the students for this topic. "

"This unit speaks about individualized support plans, sadly many organisations do not allow or support the support workers to read and see the support plans. some are luck to have support plans on i pads etc so there needs to be some mention of our modern world and technology. Community organisations use smart phone technology for support worker to log on and logoff. "
