Compile and check survey plans

APPLICATION

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to prepare a compiled survey plan to industry standards including checking the plan to ensure compliance with organisational requirements.

 

This unit applies to those working as land surveyors. Those undertaking this unit would work independently, while performing routine tasks in a familiar context.

 

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

 

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative or certificate requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

  • compile and prepare survey plans
  • interpret survey plans
  • check survey plans
  • calculate a survey close
  • convert imperial dimensions to metric
  • create an easement or covenant.

KNOWLEDGE EVIDENCE

Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:

  • land titles office guidelines for plan preparation and lodgement
  • distance calculations and geometry
  • past and current survey techniques and practices
  • requirements for easement or covenant creation
  • public sector legislation, including work health and safety, environment, privacy and diversity in the context of compiling and checking survey plans.

Assessment conditions

ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS

Skills must be demonstrated in either a:

  • workplace environment or
  • simulated environment.

 

Simulated assessment environments must simulate the real-life working environment where the skills and knowledge within this unit would be utilised.

 

Assessment must ensure access to:

  • legislation, policy, procedures and guidelines relating to compilation and checking of survey plans
  • access to plan drawing equipment and resources and a programmable calculator.

 

Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations’ requirements for assessors.
