Select and use technology for sport, fitness and recreation work

APPLICATION

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assess and regularly review the technology requirements of an organisation. This unit requires the ability to source technical information and use technology skills in a sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation context.

 

This unit applies to a range of individuals who require broad knowledge of technology to support the delivery of activity sessions and programs. It applies to any type of sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations.

 

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

 

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

    1. Identify, access and interpret specific technical information on relevant technology.
    2. Identify ways in which technology can be used to enhance own work.
    3. Confirm access to technology and organisation conditions of use.
    4. Identify and evaluate technology currently used in the organisation.
    5. Identify suitable alternatives or improvements to technology selection and use within budget, as required.

    1. Determine required industry specific technologies according to task requirements.
    2. Use features and functions of industry specific technology according to task requirements.
    3. Use organisational technology and procedures to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

    1. Use monitoring equipment according to legal obligations and industry standards of ethical practice.
    2. Take action to solve common operating problems.
    3. Download data from monitoring device.
    4. Interpret data and explain results clearly and concisely to relevant others.

    1. Determine the purpose and value of capturing visual and audio recording.
    2. Identify and use equipment and techniques for obtaining the best quality visual and audio recording according to organisational procedures.
    3. Use software applications to import and edit recorded content.
    4. Share recorded content with relevant individuals.

    1. Use appropriate methods to use, maintain and store equipment securely and safely.
    2. Identify maintenance problems with equipment and refer to appropriate personnel for action.

TITLE

Assessment Requirements for SISXIND012 Select and use technology for sport, fitness and recreation work

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and:

  • source information on at least three different technologies used in the sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation industry that are appropriate to the performance of own work role
  • evaluate the applicability and usefulness of the above equipment within the organisation
  • capture visual and audio recording for the purpose of gathering information or enhancing performance on at least two different occasions and share result with relevant individual.

Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:

  • organisational policies and procedures for the use, care and storage of technology equipment:

  • specific technical information on commonly used and available technology of relevance to the sport, fitness, aquatic and recreation industry
  • features of standard technology equipment and related software and the ways it can be used in the sport, fitness, aquatic and recreation industry
  • uses of visual and audio recordings in sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation industry ethical requirements for technology use:
    • professional relationships
    • information collection, storage and dissemination

Assessment conditions

ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS

Skills must be demonstrated in a sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation environment. This can be:

  • a workplace, or
  • a simulated environment set up for the purposes of skills assessment.

 

Assessment must ensure use of:

  • a variety of technology based equipment and relevant software
  • information about current and emerging technologies
  • codes of ethical behaviour or conduct
  • technical documentation relevant to sport, recreation, aquatic or fitness technologies.

 

Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations’ requirements for assessors.
