Cookery Project Status – Endorsed and awaiting publication

SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Industry Reference Committee (IRC), has undertaken a project to update the Training Package Products that relate to cookery, patisserie and kitchen operations.

The Cookery Case for Endorsement, including the Final Draft Qualifications, Skills Sets and Units of Competency, were submitted for consideration at the October 12, 2021, AISC meeting. They were approved by the AISC and subsequently endorsed by the State and Territory Skills Ministers.

The training package products are now awaiting publication on the national register training.gov.au

All nine endorsed cookery qualifications contain units that are due to be updated in the current tourism, travel, hospitality and events project, which is on track to be considered at the April 2022 AISC meeting. Given that once this project is approved, it would mean that there would be superseded units in all of the cookery qualifications, DESE has approved the cookery training package products to be held over for publication at the same time as the tourism, travel, hospitality and events training package products, with the updated units. This will occur in May 2022 (subject to timing of Ministerial endorsement).

This will then ensure that the cookery qualifications are not published containing units that will be superseded in three months’ time and will also reduce the impost on Registered Training Organisations who deliver across the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package, in regard to updating scope twice in a period of three months.
