Diploma of School Age Education and Care

QUALIFICATION DESCRIPTION

This qualification reflects the role of educators who are responsible for the day-to-day running of a regulated outside school hours care or vacation care service in Australia. They plan, implement and manage programs across all areas of the service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. Educators will have responsibility for the supervision of volunteers and/or other staff.

 

There are no national qualification requirements for educators within an Outside of School Care service, however, State and Territory jurisdictions may have specific regulatory requirements regarding qualifications for School Age Care educators.

Packaging rules

PACKAGING RULES

Total number of units = 25

  • 19 core units
  • 6 elective units, consisting of:
    • at least 4 units from the list below
    • up to 2 units from the list below, elsewhere in the CHC Training Package, or any current Training Packages or accredited course.

 

To achieve this qualification the individual must have completed a total of at least 280 hours of work with school age children in a regulated children’s service. The total number of hours may be applied cumulatively across all units of competency that include a requirement for workplace hours.

 

The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.
