Overall Unit

"This single unit does not reflect a Dementia skill set. At least 2 other units would make it more comprehensive, more about enabling supportive environments and recognising unmet need would make more sense, the previous version of the skill set at least provides more general informaitn even if the language used is not contemporary in nature."

"I agree. To constitute a Skill Set there needs to be other units relevant to supporting wellbeing for people living with dementia, such as units around unmet needs and the environment."

Dementia Support Skill Set

"The Dementia skill set comprises 1 unit and doesn’t include any units on behaviours of concern or unmet needs. The units are not on the elective list for either of the ageing support qualifications. Three units including CHCAGE011, one unit on behaviours of concern and one unit on unmet needs should make up this skill set."

Wording of People who have dementia

"Hello. The information is very clear. I am wondering if we can word dementia as People living with dementia. This ensures that the students and the trainers all have a concise view on the training they are providing is not dementia training but how to support clients who live with dementia. or we could say Supporting people to live well with dementia. "Good suggestion Lisa, we will ensure it is passed on to the working group and IRC for consideration."

"Hi, I really believe that the most dignified heading would be. "People suffering from Dementia" They don't choose to live with it, it is beyond their control. it is the way I have always expressed it. "

"I understand where you are coming from and this is a difficult degenerative disease. However, people living with dementia want to be know as people who live with dementia not "suffering" from dementia. They have strongly indicted that they do not want to be know as sufferers. This has come from Dementia Australia research and also from the University of Tasmania. Kind regards, as I do not wish to cause offence. However, I do want the person with dementia to be referred to as they choose."
