Cert 3 pre- req

"I think it is a good move to have the Certificate III as a pre-req. to entry, for people whoa re not employed in the disability sector. It will ensure basic skills are met and better support outcomes for pwd."

Disability Skill Set

"Explanation on Skills IQ is This skill set is for individuals who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or in Community Services, Health or a related field, working in disability support roles, who wish to gain entry to the Certificate IV in Disability Support. This does not provide an alternate entry to cert 1V (for people not working) and means the cert III is still a prerequisite - can this be clarified please?"

"This skill set is 10 units of competency, which is only 5 less than the full Cert III Individual Support (and the same number as the Cert IV Disability). To acquire Disability as a specialist stream in the Cert III Individual Support only requires 3 units to be completed. The skill set for Ageing is only 6 units, and the relative difference will not be clear to potential students or employers. The sheer size of this skill set (by unit count, not nominal hours or level of learning) is likely to mitigate against uptake, especially considering the majority of training at this level and for this sector is subsidised, and governments are not consistent in funding skill sets (but generally are in funding qualifications). Consider reducing this skill set."

"Hi Alexis, both this and the Aged Care Skill Set were designed to facilitate flexibility in entry to the Certificate IVs. As the Certificate IV in Ageing Support is pairing the Aged Care skill set with 2008 and 2012 version of the qualification it is smaller, as it only needs to cover content that has changed in industry since then. As the Certificate IV in Disability Support does not require a qualification in addition to the skill set, the skill set contains more units, as it contains (as you have pointed out) the core units from the Certificate III in Individual Support.
