Background

The Complementary Health Industry Reference Committee (IRC) is responsible for ensuring that nationally recognised Training Package Products deliver the skills and knowledge required to equip the sectors under its remit with a highly skilled workforce.

SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Complementary Health Industry Reference Committee (IRC) and the Massage Therapy Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), is therefore undertaking a project to update Training Package Products within the HLT Training
Package relating to Massage, Remedial Massage Therapy and Reflexology job roles.

Qualifications

The IRC and TAC will review and update two existing qualifications and develop a new Advanced Diploma, as follows:

  • HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy
  • HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage
  •  NEW Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage.

  • Units of Competency

    The IRC and TAC will review and update eight existing Massage-related Units:

    • HLTMSG007 Adapt remedial massage practice for athletes
    • HTLMSG006 Adapt remedial massage treatments to meet specific needs
    • HTLMSG002 Assess client massage needs
    • HTLMSG001 Develop massage practice
    • HTLMSG008 Monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments
    • HTLMSG003 Perform remedial massage musculoskeletal assessments
    • HTLMSG004 Provide massage treatments
    • HTLMSG005 Provide remedial massage treatments.
    • Updates to the Training Package Products outlined above will assist in addressing the fundamental need for consistency in Massage, Remedial Massage Therapy and Reflexology training across the country, to ensure training practices are able to meet industry needs.
