SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Wholesale and Retail Industry Reference Committee (IRC), is undertaking a project to update Training Package Products within the SIR Training Package relating to Visual Merchandising job roles.

Background

The Wholesale and Retail Industry Reference Committee (IRC) is responsible for ensuring that nationally recognised Training Package Products deliver the skills and knowledge required to equip the sectors under its remit with a highly skilled workforce.

As a result of the industry consultation carried out by the IRC during 2017–2018, the IRC identified the need to develop an Advanced Diploma of Visual Merchandising Qualification and associated Units of Competency, to be incorporated into the SIR Retail Services Training Package during the preparation of its 2018 Industry Skills Forecast (ISF). This ISF, which outlined the Case for Change, was submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for approval to update the Training Package Products to meet current and future industry needs.

The development of this Qualification and the associated Units of Competency will assist in addressing the fundamental need for consistency in Visual Merchandising training across the country, to ensure training practices are able to meet industry needs.

The Qualification and Units to be incorporated into the SIR Retail Services Training Package are as follows:

Qualification

  • SIRXXX21 Advanced Diploma of Visual Merchandising.
  • Units of Competency

    • SIRRMERXXX Design and construct visual merchandising display element
    • SIRRMERXXX Develop and implement creative photographic styling solution

Following the close of the consultation period, feedback received will be collated and provided to the IRC to inform the development of Draft 2, which will be made publicly available for validation prior to submission for endorsement.
