SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Wholesale and Retail Industry Reference Committee (IRC), is undertaking a project to develop a new nationally accredited Advanced Diploma of Visual Merchandising and five new Visual Merchandising Units of Competency. This will ensure that senior visual merchandisers have access to contemporary best-practice skills and knowledge in order to meet the current and future needs of the Australian Retail industry.

Background

The need for a new advanced-level Qualification was identified by the Wholesale and Retail IRC during the development of its 2018 Industry Skills Forecast (ISF), and the Case for Change outlined within the ISF was subsequently approved by the AISC. The new Advanced Diploma will assist in addressing the fundamental need for consistency in Visual Merchandising training across the country and help ensure training practices are able to meet both current and future industry needs.

To inform the development of the new Advanced Diploma Qualification and the five new Units of Competency, the IRC identified the nature of the skills needs and knowledge requirements of industry and the respective Training Package Product update requirements.

The new Qualification will provide speciality knowledge and skills to focus on the more advanced aspects of visual merchandising. The enhancement of skills within the workforce will result in better outcomes for those senior merchandisers working in the expanding online digital Retail space as well as within physical, bricks-and-mortar Retail outlets.

The Wholesale and Retail IRC has now reviewed and approved modifications made to the Draft 1 Training Package Products as a result of stakeholder feedback received during the first round of public consultation which took place from 24 December 2020 to 12 February 2021.
